This article used the Nursing’s Social policy Statement as
a framework for describing the scope of practice. The elements of
the scope of practice are divided into four components – core,
dimensions, boundaries and intersections. Core includes the roles,
behaviors and processes inherent to the practice. Dimensions are
the roles, responsibilities, functions and skills. Boundaries are
divided into internal and external. Internal boundaries are within
the profession and external includes rules, regulations, societal
demands, economy, trends and resources. The forth component is the
intersections which include the collaborative interface with collegial
and professional groups.
